From 1887 through 1920 Fostoria was the heart of the glass industy in the United States boasting 13 glass factories within the city limits.  These thriving businesses were provided resources through two local excavation companies which harvested the rich lime quarries in the area.

As featured in the October 2001 issue of Trains magazine, Fostoria, Ohio is one of the nation's busiest train junctions with over 100 trains every day.  One of the best viewing spots is adjacent to the former Amtrak station, located at 500 S. Main St.
